Paper Steel

Paper Steel - What Magnets Have Been Waiting For!
  What is paper steel? Paper steel is just what it sounds like, a layer of paper, a layer of very thin steel, and another layer of paper all laminated together by a proprietary process developed by Kling and it is magnetic receptive on both sides!  
 

What's special about it? It is:

  • Thin
  • Lightweight
  • Can be printed on both sides
  • Inexpensive
 
  Paper steel can be printed 1 to 4 colors on one or both sides. It can be rigid, with the addition of chipboard, or flexible. We can diecut and fold it in almost any shape or configuration. Paper steel boards can be as small as 3" x 5" or any size up to 24" x 36" . Paper steel can have either a polylaminate film or UV finish that creates a dry eraseable board (write on/wipe off). Paper steel boards can be produced with easels for displaying or grommets for hanging. It can be mounted on the wall with adhesive strips, framed, or freestanding with an easel back.  
  Thickness of Paper Steel:  
Standard paper steel made with a layer of paper, steel, and paper - thickness measures approximately 1/32". Thick paper steel made with paper and steel on either side of chipboard, in this photo the chipboard used is a 60 pt.

Here are some examples of our work:

Basketball Referee Board:

Description:  This board was created to assist high school referees.  The 10" x 6.25" paper steel board was made from 4 color (CMYK) printing on the front and 1 color printing on the back.  The magnets are 1/2" diameter circles made from 2mm foam in two different colors and .020 mil magnet. Kling collated three magnets to each board and then shrink-wrapped the board for final sale.

Triazzle Puzzles

Description: This is a magnetic travel game that used the same artwork as the popular large cardboard version. The 11.5" x 5.75" paper steel board was made with 4 color (CMYK) printing and inset steel on either side of 60 pt chipboard.  The board was die cut to fold in half creating a 5.75" x 5.75" piece.  A magnetic closure was added to one side of the board to keep the board closed when not in use.  Magnets were created with 4 color (CMYK) printing and .020 mil magnet.  The magnets were kiss cut and collated onto the boards.  Final games were shrink-wrapped and packed bulk in boxes by design.
Locker Lingo Boards

Description:  These small (4" x 6") paper steel boards were made with one
color printing on one side and white paper on the other.  The boards were
round cornered prior to packing.
Telletubbies Play Set

Description:  This paper steel board and magnet set was made from licensed
art of the popular Telletubbies television program.  This product was
intended for very young children so the client asked Kling to manufacture
a paper steel board that was very durable with no sharp corners.  To
satisfy the client's need this board was made with 4 color (CMYK) printing
and inset steel on either side of 60 pt chipboard.  The board was then
round cornered to eliminate any sharp edges. The magnets were made from 4
color printing with a polylaminate film finish and .020 mil magnetic
material and were die cut.
Diet Coke Board

Description:  This is a promotional magnetic poetry type of item that was
created for Coke vending machines in office environments.  The 11" x 11"
paper steel board was made from 4 color (CMYK) process printing on the
front of the board, no printing on the back.  The die cut magnets were
made from one color printing.  The boards were collated with the magnets
and 4, 1" x 1" adhesive pads were attached to the back four corners of the
board so the boards could be stuck onto the vending machines
Bell South Board

Description:  This board was developed to track sales performance on an
ongoing basis.  The 8" x 10" magnetic receptive and dry erase board was
made with 4 color printing on the front and no printing on the back.  The
board was made with two .75" x 5" strips of magnet on the back so the
board could be hung easily on a metal surface.
Graphophoenmic Testing Board

Description:  This board was created to test elementary students in
spelling.  The 11" x 18" paper steel board was made from 1 color printing
on both sides then die cut to create a folding board with rounded corners.
The magnetic letters were made from 6 mm thick EVA foam in five different
colors.  The foam was die cut and bagged for the customer.

Leeson Display Board with Magnetic Puzzle

This client wanted to create a promotional display board along
with a magnetic puzzle to keep their name and message in front of their
clients.  Kling created an 8.5" x 11" rigid paper steel board made with two
color printing on the front and 100 pt chipboard in the center of the board
for added stability.  An pop-out easel was added to the back to make the
board free standing.  The puzzle was created with 4 color (CMYK) process
printing with a polylaminate film finish that was glued to 1/8" black foam
and .020 mil magnetic material, then die cut.  The client wanted the center
piece to be reflective so Kling sourced paper coated mylar that was then
glued to 1/8" black foam and magnet and cut in the shape of the center
puzzle piece.

Connections Game Board

This is a folding paper steel board made with 4 color (CMYK)
process printing with a polylaminate film finish on both sides.  The 24" x
12" board was die cut to fold to 12" x 12"

Barbie Display Board

This is a folding paper steel board with a cutout on the front
panel to see the magnets within.  The 14" x 18" board was made from 4 color
(CMYK) process printing with a polylamiante film finish on the front and the
back and die cut to measure 9" x 14".

Large Ram Board

This 24" x 36" paper steel boards is made from 2 color printing
with a polylaminate film finish on the front and a layer of 100 point
chipboard in the center for added stability.  The magnets are made from 1/8"
red foam and .020 mil magnet.  Kling also provides on demand drop shipping
services for this client.

Mini Ram Board

This 5.25" x 7" paper steel board is made from 2 color printing
with a polylaminate film finish on the front, the magnets are made from 1/8"
red foam and .020 mil magnet.  This piece was created to be a companion
piece with the larger (24" x 36") RAM board.
